The Chimera is a term of the Greek mythology which designated a monster with head of lion, body of goat and tail of dragon. Later, the spectrum was extended to be used to a fantastic creature composed from others.
In the towers of the cathedral Notre-Dame there is a gallery of chimeras really impressive. Of course, the chimeras should not be confused with the gargoyles, which in addition to decoratives serve as a drain.
The chimeras of this gallery located between the two towers were designed by Viollet-le-Duc, one of the architects who restored the beautiful cathedral in the nineteenth century. The most famous of all chimeras is known as Estirga and is the one we reproduce.
