Recreation of the Ark of the Covenant in Egyptian style. According to the Old Testament, following Yahweh’s instructions, Moses had the Ark built to keep the Tablets of the Law, which sealed the covenant or pact between God and the chosen people. Solomon’s Temple was the final location of the Ark until the invasion of Jerusalem by the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II in 597 BC, after which it was lost track of.
According to descriptions, it consisted of a wooden chest covered with pure gold with two figures of winged angels or cherubim facing each other on the lid.
