Buddha is the Enlightened One, a human being who has reached Nirvana, the total liberation from pain. Siddhartha Gautama Buddha was a prince of a kingdom in northwest India in the 6th-5th centuries BC, who renounced wealth and office and embarked on a life of seeking knowledge, asceticism and renunciation.
