Description
Decorative figure of high quality, made in reconstituted marble (powder of marble agglutinated with Cronolita) and finely polished. Patinated with acrylics and natural lands that give the completion of a sculpture embellished by the passage of time.
Measurements: Height: 37 cm. Width: 21 cm. Depth: 24 cm.
Base measurements: 11 x 11.5 cm.
The sculpture reproduced here is a head of the Goddess Hera from the Sanctuary of the Goddess in Athens (420 BC). The original is in the National Museum of Archaeology in Athens.
Hera is the wife and one of the three sisters of Zeus in the Olympian pantheon of Greek mythology and religion. Her main function is as a protector of women and marriage. Her counterpart in the religion of ancient Rome was Juno. The cow, the lion and the peacock were considered sacred to her. Hera’s mother is Rhea and her father Cronus.
