Zeus and Demeter daughters. Relief based on Greek ceramic vessels found in the British Museum, mainly from the Hamilton collection. The original piece is a Greek red-figure ceramic plate or pelike, manufactured in Greece around 350 BC. This piece was acquired by the British Museum in the 18th century as part of the collection of vases of the English ambassador to Naples, Sir William Hamilton. It is considered to represent Demeter in the house of Celeus, a scene belonging to the myth of Demeter and Persephone, related to the Eleusinian Mysteries.
