This piece is a relief created from the painting Virgin of the Chair (Madonna della seggiola) by Raphael Sanzio. The original work that inspired this relief is an oil painting on wood, located in the Palatine Gallery of the Pitti Palace (Florence). Its author, Raphael Sanzio (1483-1520), is one of the greatest exponents of the Italian Renaissance. It is said that Raphael was inspired by a young peasant as the model for the Virgin; not having his drawing materials at hand, he sketched the face of the young woman with chalk on the lid of a barrel, hence the round shape of the painting.
Reproductions of bas-reliefs made in materials such as molded marble are elements that create a unique and stimulating atmosphere in the home. Through them, we express our personality, tastes, interests, and aesthetic preferences. These reliefs, inspired by the art of Antiquity, the Renaissance, or Neoclassicism, serve to enrich the decoration of our favorite interior spaces, such as libraries, offices, or living rooms.
When incorporating reproductions of sculptures or reliefs into interior decoration, it is important to consider some issues such as the size of the figures in relation to the space they will occupy, lighting, and the arrangement in relation to other elements in the chosen space, such as paintings, shelves, other reliefs, curtains, etc. Their presence can serve to highlight a special corner of the room, adding an artistic touch to home decor and creating a unique and evocative atmosphere.
Decorating with art helps us bring beauty to our home and, in turn, enriches the soul with its beauty and meaning.
