Description

Polychrome wood carving in tempera, gilded and with “estofados”. Unique pieces made entirely by hand by specialised artists and craftsmen.

It represents the mother of God, holding her Son in her left arm and an apple in her right hand. With the cross-section of the fruit, a five-pointed star, the Greek symbol of wisdom, is drawn in the flesh. In Eden there is an apple tree: the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Wisdom would thus have the two connotations symbolised by the apple. By depicting the Virgin and Child in this way, the idea of the wisdom of the Son of God is further emphasised.
