Reproduction of Victory of the Parthenon. This figure of Nike, the goddess of Victory, is located on the front of the East Pediment of the Parthenon, where the birth of Athena from the head of Zeus is depicted.
This figure of Victory is a symbol of self-improvement and self-conquest.
The Parthenon was the main temple of Athens, dedicated to its patron goddess, Athena Parthenos (“the virgin”) and located on the hill of the Acropolis. After the destruction of the previous temple during the Median Wars, it was rebuilt between 447-432 BC by the architects Ictinus and Callicrates, while Phidias and his workshop were responsible for the sculptures that decorated it.
The pediment on the eastern façade depicts the birth of Athena from the head of her father Zeus, while the western pediment depicts the struggle between Athena and Poseidon for the patronage of Athens.
