The Venus of Willendorf is an anthropomorphic female statuette from the Upper Palaeolithic, 20,000 to 22,000 years old. The work is named after the site on the banks of the Danube where it was discovered. It is possibly a symbol of the Mother Goddess, the fertility of the earth and motherhood.
