Aphrodite of Milo, better known as Venus de Milo, is one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. It was sculpted between 130 and 100 BC and is believed to represent Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty (Venus for the Romans). The original piece is a marble sculpture 203 cm in height. The original arms and pedestal were lost after its discovery in 1820 on the Greek island of Milos, from which it takes its name. Based on an inscription on its pedestal, it is believed that the work is by Alexandros of Antioch. The original is currently displayed at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
