The Aphrodite of Milos, better known as Venus de Milo, is one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. It was sculpted between 130 and 100 B.C., believed to represent Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty (Venus for the Romans). The original piece is a marble sculpture 203 cm in height. The original arms and pedestal were lost after its discovery in 1820 on the Greek island of Milos, from where it takes its name. From an inscription on its pedestal, it is believed that the work is by Alexandros of Antioch. The original is currently exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
