It is one of the most celebrated sculptures by the Greek sculptor Praxiteles, created in Athens around 360 B.C., representing the goddess Aphrodite, known as Venus in Rome, emerging from the bath.

The Venus or Aphrodite of Knidos is a sculpture attributed to the Greek sculptor Praxiteles dating back to the 4th century B.C. The statue broke with artistic conventions of the time, as it constituted the first representation of female nudity in Greek art.

This sculpture was placed in the sanctuary of Aphrodite on the island of Knidos, where it became a sensation and attracted numerous visitors.
