The lighthouse known as ‘Tower of Hercules‘ by the legend that it was in this place where this hero buried the head of the giant Geríones, is still in operation.
This farum Brigantium Romano, name with which it will appear quoted in the Chronicles of the 9th Century, is an impressive civil construction of the 2nd Century D.C.
Erected by the architect Cayo Servio Lupo. It has a height of more than 35 meters and a square base of almost 12 meters of side. Access to the lighthouse is made by an internal spiral staircase made in the 18th century by Amaro Antunez.
At the end of this century (1791) will be restored by the engineer E. Giannini, giving the lighthouse the appearance that today presents.
The austerity and classical rigidity of the neoclassicism endowed the tower with a sober appearance that will be slightly broken by the narrow, slightly oblique stony stripes that articulate vertically the wall and the open adintelados in pairs.
