Description
Reproduction of a ceramic figure of the tanagra type. Height: 5 cm.
This figure represents the head of a horse.
The reproductions of Tanagras that we present are of great beauty and quality. Faithful recreations of original figures made in terracotta, polychromed and aged to give them the appearance they have over the centuries.
The Greek terracottas called “tanagrinas” or “tanagras” are small polychrome ceramic figures that were highly prized objects in the Greek world from the end of the 4th century BC until the end of the 3rd century BC.
These statuettes of great elegance and subtle beauty were probably made in Athenian workshops, and it was by accident that the first examples were discovered at Tanagra, from which they received their name.
Used as grave goods, they have also been found in sanctuaries and inside houses as decoration.
