Statue of Higia or Hygieia, Greek goddess of health, healing and hygiene. She was the daughter of Asclepios, god of health, and sister of Panacea, goddess of medicine. Her cult became more important after the plagues that devastated Greece and especially Athens in the 5th century BC. In Rome she was associated with the goddess Salus and was assimilated to the Gallo-Roman goddess of healing Sirona.She is depicted as a young woman, with a coiled snake which she gives to drink from a bowl.
