The Venus de Milo is an ancient Greek statue and one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. It was made between 130 and 100 BC and is believed to represent Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty (Venus to the Romans). The original is a marble sculpture 203 cm high. The arms and the original plinth were lost after its discovery. From an inscription that was on its pedestal, it is believed that the work is by Alexandros of Antioch; the original is currently on display in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The statue is named after the Greek island of Milos, where it was discovered.
