Reproduction of a sculpture of Apollo Strangford. The Apollo Strangford or kouros of Anafi is a kouros type sculpture dating from 500 BC. – It was sculpted in the Cyclades area of Ancient Greece in 490 BC. It is now in the British Museum in London.
Kouros in Greek simply means ‘youth’. It is a term used to describe a type of statue of a male figure produced in marble during the Archaic period of Greek art.
The god Apollo in Greece represents light (sun), harmony, beauty and truth and is therefore associated with the arts, health and philosophy.
