Winged Victory of Samothrace. The original was made in Greece in marble, between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BCE. It was found on the island of Samothrace in multiple pieces, so it had to be patiently reconstructed. It is currently housed in the Louvre Museum, Paris.
The Victory, or Nike of Samothrace, is a round sculpture belonging to the Rhodian school of the Hellenistic period. It is located in the Louvre Museum, Paris. In Greek, the statue is called Nikà tis Samothrakis. The original was made in marble around 190 BCE and comes from the sanctuary of the Cabeiri in Samothrace. Some experts attribute it, with some probability, to Pithokritos of Rhodes. It was discovered in 1863 on the island of Samothrace (Samothraki, in Greek) by the French consul Charles Champoiseau, an amateur archaeologist.
