Individual sarcophagus. NINETEENTH dynasty. Louvre Museum sarcophagus: denomination of Greek origin which means “meat eater”, but in Egyptian it is called sarcophagus only to the coffin which was usually in direct contact with the mummy; This one, in sumptuous burial cases, was perfectly embedded in several boxes that embedded the ones in the others. These coffins used to be of wood, and others of thick cardboard in the late times. Only the outer box was of stone and no longer kept human form, but tended to assume that of a quadrangular box. In exceptional cases, for example, the Pharaohs, it was used to fit the coffin to other majors and at the end the whole in one or several chapels.
