Description
Model of the Santa Cristina Church in Lena, made of marble reconstituted with resin.
Measurements: 9 x 8 x 5 cm.
The small church of Santa Cristina is supposed to have been built by the same master who was in charge of the works of the Naranco, the church of San Miguel de Lillo and the royal palace, today the church of Santa MarÃa, in the second half of the 9th century.
Its structure is curious in Asturian religious architecture. It consists of an elongated, vaulted nave, whose space is cut off at both ends; at the chancel, three arches separate the section next to the only apse, in which the floor is higher, while at the base there is a vault that supports the tribune and the staircase leading to it and to the chamber above the portico. The apse and portico are thus symmetrical, as are the two chambers on either side of the nave.
Inside, the characteristic elements of the period were used: sogueados shafts, faceted capitals and medallions in the spandrels.
