Description
Model of the church of Sant Jaume de Frontanyà, made of stone reconstituted with resin.
Dimensions: 9 cm (width) x 13 cm (height) x 9 cm (depth).
Church of Sant Jaume de Frontanyà, Barcelona. The first written record of this church dates back to the 11th century, although there are indications of an earlier existence. It is one of the finest examples of Romanesque art in Catalonia.
In the years 1962-1966, and later, from 1991 to 1993, the church underwent major restorations.
The church has a Latin cross plan, with a nave and three semicircular apses that open onto the transept. The nave is covered with a barrel vault. At the intersection of the nave and transept is an octagonal dome on trumpets. At the intersection with the transept is a 12-sided dome, which does not form a dodecagon, but is a modification of the basic octagon. It is one of the most complex and elegant Romanesque domes. The main façade is decorated with Lombard arches. Above the door is a circular stained-glass window that replaces a primitive Romanesque window. The façade is crowned by a rectangular bell tower, built later in the 16th century.
