Reproduction of a torso based on the Hellenistic sculpture of Hercules Farnese. This sculpture was discovered in the Baths of Caracalla in Rome in 1546. Of Greek origin, it is estimated to have been sculpted around the 2nd century BC, probably as a copy of an original bronze by Lysippos. After its discovery, the statue was later acquired by the Farnese family and became part of the family’s collection displayed in the Farnese Palace until its transfer to Naples in the 18th century. It is currently exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
The sculpture depicts Hercules in a majestic pose of rest after completing the twelve labors. This beautiful work of classical antiquity conveys the strength and emotional expression of the Greek hero, offering a magnificent example of the artistic skill of Hellenistic art.
Heracles, Hercules in Rome, was a hero and demigod, the son of the god Zeus and a mortal woman, Alcmena. Hercules’s most famous feat was the twelve labors, assigned to him by King Eurystheus as seemingly impossible tasks, which the demigod nevertheless managed to complete.
Our favorite outdoor corners, gardens, and terraces acquire a special elegance when we incorporate reproductions of large classical sculptures and famous works into their decoration, such as this torso of Hercules Farnese. The stone, cast bronze, or molded marble with resin used to replicate these figures withstand outdoor conditions well, ensuring durability and resistance in outdoor spaces.
This masterpiece of Greco-Roman art, capturing the expressiveness of Greek Hellenistic art, adds a timeless touch to our favorite spaces at home, whether indoors or outdoors. Placed on a pedestal in the garden, the figure of Hercules blends with the surrounding vegetation, infusing a unique sense of splendor and engaging in a fascinating dialogue between art and nature.
