Horseman. Rhodes. 4th century BC, Greece. Bas-relief representation of a horseman, probably from the frieze of a temple dedicated to Zeus. With one hand he restrains the horse, which he is nervously kicking in order to launch himself into a race. Produced at the height of Greek art, it reflects the values of Greek culture and its aesthetics in its period of splendour, emphasising the realism and strength of the features of the horse and rider.
