Amazon on horseback. Rhodes. 4th century BC, Greece Bas-relief representation of an Amazon, probably from the frieze of a temple dedicated to Zeus. With one hand she is holding back the horse, which she is nervously kicking in order to make a run for it. Produced at the height of Greek art, this work reflects the values of Greek culture and its aesthetics at the height of its splendour, emphasising the realism and strength of the features of the horse and the rider.
