Relief of a Greek frieze “Fauns treading on grapes“.
Carved in flat relief, and symmetrically framed, we see in this piece four fauns, completely human–shaped, occupied in the winemaking process. The four carry on the skin of Lynx, which also identified the God bread of the Greeks. One of them encourages others playing the aulos or double flute, and another brings more grapes in a basket.
Greco roman culture, 3rd – 1st BC. Original in polychrome terracotta. The Louvre Museum. Paris
