In Ancient Egypt Thoth (Djehuti) was the god of Wisdom, inventor of writing and protector of the scribes. He is depicted with the head of an ibis, holding a chalice and inkwell, or in the full form of the bird. He is also depicted in the form of a kinocephalic baboon, sometimes squatting next to a scribe. On his head he wears a headdress representing the moon.
