Recreation of Buddha’s head. Inspired by oriental sculptures.
The Buddha has been represented in various forms since the 1st century AD, when, after Asia’s contact with the Greco-Roman world through the provinces conquered by Alexander the Great, Gandhara art developed, which fused elements of Eastern art with the Western art of Greece and Rome.
As Buddhism spread to China, Southeast Asia, Korea and Japan, depictions of the Buddha were adapted to the styles of the different territories.
