Description
Model of the Puente de la Reina, made of stone reconstituted with resin.
Measurements: 23 x 7 x 7 x 7 cm.
Model of the Puente de la Reina, Navarre. The construction of this Romanesque bridge, dating from the first half of the 11th century, was due to the Reina Mayor, wife of Sancho el Mayor, to facilitate the passage over the river Arga for pilgrims on their way to Santiago; it was one of the most important crossroads on the route.
The bridge is located in the town of Puente la Reina, in the region of Navarre, Spain. It is 110 metres long and 110 metres wide; it consists of six round arches and open pillars that lighten the weight of the abutments. The roadway slopes steeply on both sides, as is typical of the structure of Romanesque bridges.
