Description
Model of the Cathedral of Burgo de Osma, Soria, made of marble reconstituted with resin.
Measurements: 15 x 6 x 18 cm.
On the remains of the old Romanesque cathedral, a Gothic cathedral was built from 1232 onwards. The work had not yet been completed in 1275 when Bishop Agustín asked for alms to continue the work.
Of the three doorways preserved from this time, the one that opens on the south arm of the transept stands out for its importance, made by sculptors who mastered the Gothic language.
The lintel depicts the Dormition of Mary and the archivolts depict the heavenly court. The tympanum was intended for the theme of the Coronation of the Virgin, but had to be replaced by the vase of lilies in 1885. The jambs are decorated with characters from the Old Testament (Moses with the bronze serpent, Solomon and the Queen of Sheba) and the group of the Annunciation.
