Parthenon Bas-relief-Capitoline Museums. Reproduction inspired by a frieze from the Parthenon exhibited in the Capitoline Museums of Rome. The Parthenon friezes are a series of bas-reliefs, sculpted in Pentelic marble by the school of Phidias in the 5th century BC (447 to 438 BC), approximately one meter in height and with a total length of 160 meters, encircling the perimeter of the temple of Athena Parthenos on the Acropolis of Athens. These pieces were located at the top of the Parthenon’s cella, depicting the grand procession of the Panathenaic Festival, in honor of the city’s patron goddess, Athena. The reliefs on the frieze depict the participants in the procession, led by maidens carrying embroidered peplos as offerings to the goddess, along with other figures such as aristocrats, magistrates, common people with their offerings, musicians, high-ranking military officials, soldiers, and mounted knights.
Incorporating reproductions of classical reliefs into the decoration of our homes allows us to create a unique atmosphere that evokes the greatness of past civilizations, where ancient art merges with contemporary design and style. These reliefs, with their motifs inspired by mythology and history, lend an air of nobility and sophistication to our favourite corners. Bas-reliefs thus become central pieces in the room, not only beautifying the space but also recounting stories of distant times, creating a timeless connection between the past and the present.
