Chinese art uses a variety of materials, including bronze, jade and ceramics, terracotta and porcelain. The most spectacular and famous figures are the Xian Warriors, more than 8,000 life-size statues of soldiers and horses that were discovered during the excavation of the tomb of the first emperor (3rd century BC). In addition to these monumental sculptures, traditional art also depicts smaller figures of anonymous people in everyday scenes and attitudes, using materials such as porcelain, metals such as bronze, stone and terracotta.
