Statue of the goddess Athena in neoclassical style. The Greek goddess Athena, Minerva in Rome, was born from the head of the king of the gods, Zeus, as a fully grown and armed woman. She was consecrated as the protector goddess of the city of Athens, whose citizens dedicated their main temple, the Parthenon, located on the Acropolis, to her. In the temple, there was a colossal statue of Athena Parthenos (“virgin”) created by the great Athenian sculptor Phidias in marble and gold, and the pediments depict two scenes from the goddess’s life: her birth and her dispute with the sea god Poseidon for the patronage of Athens. She is the protective goddess of strategy in war and philosophy, arts and techniques, and Greek heroes such as Perseus, Theseus, or Odysseus. Her attributes include the olive, owl, helmet, spear, aegis, and shield with the head of Medusa.
Reproductions of statues of gods and heroes from Greco-Roman mythology, such as this neoclassical sculpture of Athena, are a timeless and unique addition to the decoration of any space in our home. These mythological figures are ideal elements for decorating a prominent corner not only indoors, such as libraries, living rooms, or offices but also outdoors, adding a classical touch to our gardens, patios, or terraces.
Incorporating these large classical sculptures into the decoration of our homes creates a unique connection between the past and the present. The beauty of these art reproductions not only enhances our environment but also invites reflection on the meaning of classical myths and the legacy of Greco-Roman culture that has endured over the centuries.
