Description
Model of the Prado Museum, made of marble reconstituted with resin.
Measurements: 27 x 12 x 7 cm.
Prado Museum, Madrid. It was built around 1785 by the architect Juan de Villanueva within the great complex laid out in the Paseo del Prado. Originally intended to house the Museum of Natural Sciences, it later became a museum of painting.
It consists of two square spaces at either end, a central one formed by a monumental entrance with an exastil portico, a vestibule and an unfinished and altered basilica nave.
On the outside, the complexity of the volumes stands out, with some bodies that are set forward and others that are set back, thus creating a beautiful play of light and shadow. The combination of stone and brick was an original way of treating the wall.
