Description
Model of the Monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallés, made of marble reconstituted with resin.
Measurements: 21 x 15 x 10 cm.
Monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallés, Barcelona. This is one of the most outstanding monumental complexes in Catalonia. Its three-nave church was begun in the Romanesque period and finished in the 14th century in accordance with the aesthetic guidelines of the Gothic style. The succession of construction campaigns is best seen in the ceiling of the different sections of the naves.
The cloister of the monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès is, along with that of Girona Cathedral, one of the most beautiful works of Catalan Romanesque architecture. The sculptural decoration was the work of master sculptor Arnaldus Gatell, who left his signature next to his own sculpted figure carving a capital. The upper gallery was built in the post-medieval period.
