Relief mask of Socrates. Greek philosopher. National Museum, Greece.
Reproduction depicting the Athenian philosopher Socrates (470 BC-399 BC). Master of Plato, he left nothing written, but his thought was the starting point of Western philosophy, developing methodologies such as dialectics from his Socratic method based on questions and answers. His independent spirit earned him numerous enmities that led to his trial and condemnation to death by hemlock poisoning.
