Apollo God in Greece represents the light (sun), Harmony, beauty and truth so it is related to the arts, health and philosophy.
Apollo and Marsyas clashed in a musical contest in which the judges were the Muses. According to a version Marsyas played better than Apollo, but Apollo played the same melody with the lyre upside down, Marsyas could not do the same with his flute, so he lost. According to another version Marsyas was defeated when Apollo accompanied with his voice the sound of the lyre. Marsyas protested, arguing that the contest consisted of skill playing an instrument and not with the voice, but Apollo replied that Marsyas blew on his flute, which was almost the same. The Muses agreed with Apollo, granting him victory.
