Description
Reproduction of bas-relief in moulded alabaster, oil polychrome.
Auth. Vincent Van Gogh. The Cathedral of Auvers-sur-Oise, 1890 oil on canvas, 94 x 74 cm Paris, Musée d’Orsay.
After leaving the asylum, Van Gogh settled in Auvers, where he was taken in by the well-known Doctor Gadchet, a friend of his brother Théo. He spent his last months in Auvers-sur-Oise, overwhelmed by loneliness, and shot himself on 27 July 1890, dying two days later. This was one of his last paintings.
