The training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano is a brigantine-schooner of the Spanish Navy.
It has four masts with the names Blanca, Almansa, Asturias and Nautilus, the names of four training ships that preceded it. It is named after the Spanish explorer Juan Sebastián Elcano, captain of the expedition after the death of Ferdinand Magellan, who completed the first round-the-world voyage in 1522. The ship also bears the Elcano coat of arms, which was granted to the family by Emperor Charles I after Elcano’s return from the expedition.
The coat of arms is a globe with the Latin motto “Primus Circumdedisti Me” (“You were the first to circumnavigate me”).
