Hercules and Lycas is a marble sculptural group by the sculptor Antonio Canova executed between 1795 and 1815 and housed in the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome.
According to Greek myth, Lycas was a servant of Herakles. His wife, Deyanira, sent Lycas with a gift for the hero, a cloak that was stained by the blood of the centaur Nessus, believing that Heracles would love her forever. When the cloak, which was indeed poisoned, became hot and began to burn Herakles, he threw Lycas into the sea in anger.
