In this relief, also called “Heracles Crowned by the Goddess Victory,” the figure of the hero is depicted with formidable musculature, honoring the concept of a Herculean body. Alongside him are a series of symbolic attributes, such as the skin of the Nemean lion, referring to the first of the twelve labors performed in his mythical saga. Crowning Hercules is the Goddess Nike, bestowing upon him the laurel crown of Victory. Next to her is another Nike or Victory depicted small, poised atop a terrestrial globe, alluding to universal power.

The demigod Heracles, known as Hercules by the Romans, is one of the most famous heroes of Greek mythology, renowned for his incredible strength and bravery. Son of the god Zeus and the mortal Alcmene, Hercules had to face a series of challenges to prove his worth and gain immortality, such as the famous 12 labors, imposed upon him as penance to atone for the murder of his wife and children, committed in a fit of madness. Among the most famous trials are the capture of the Nemean lion, the cleaning of the Augean stables, and the acquisition of the golden apples from the Garden of the Hesperides. Hercules is a symbol of resilience and determination in the face of adversity, and his figure has inspired generations of people throughout history.
