Reproduction of the work “The Allegory of Winter,” a marble sculpture created by Jean Antoine Houdon in 1783. The original measures 145 cm in height and is located in the Faber Museum of Montpellier.
The marble figure refers to a series of models of allegorical representations of summer and winter. Unlike other Baroque allegories of winter in the form of an old man or a woman warming by the fire, Houdon chose the figure of a young woman, wrapping a cloth around her head and upper body, while her abdomen and legs are bare. The posture of closed legs harks back to the ancient motif of the ‘Modest Venus,’ but the nudity of part of the body is a consistent element of winter allegories.
Decorating interiors with reproductions of classical sculptures, such as this figure “Allegory of Winter,” is an elegant and timeless way to add a touch of sophistication to our home spaces.
These figures can be used to enrich the decoration of our favourite interior spaces, libraries, offices or living rooms.
By incorporating these works of art into our rooms, we create a unique atmosphere that merges timeless beauty with contemporary elements, bridging the gap between past and present.
