The Virgen del Carmen or Santa María del Monte Carmelo (Virgin of Mount Carmel) is one of the most venerated virgins in Spain. She is the patron virgin of the sea, of the Spanish Navy, of sailors and fishermen, as well as of numerous localities in Spain, especially in coastal areas, many of which celebrate her day (16th July) with maritime pilgrimages.
