The blindfold represents objectivity, what justice is or should be, represent, they should be objective impose, without fear or favor, regardless of identity, money, power or weakness, the blind and impartial justice. The first Roman coins represent uncovered Justitia with the sword in one hand and in the other the balance, but with the eyes uncovered. Justitia was only commonly represented as “blind” in the late XV century. The earliest known representation of blind Justice is the statue of Hans Giengen 1543 justice fountain (Fountain of Justice) in Berne.
