Ramesses II (c. 1303 BC – c. 1213 BC) is one of the most famous and powerful pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. He succeeded his father, Seti, and lived a long life, 90 years, of which he ruled for 66. His building activity was intense, with the temple of Abu Simbel, built to commemorate the battle of Kadesh against the Hittites, standing out among his numerous temples and monuments. After his death, a period characterised by a prolonged and progressive decline began.
