Description
Reproduction of a figure of Roman origin made in lost wax bronze.
Measurements: 5 x 9 x 18 cm.
Reproduction of a statuette representing a goat from the Iberian-Roman period. The original comes from Malpartida de Cáceres and is in the Victor Balaguer Museum, Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona).
This piece has a Latin inscription beneath its feet: ‘A holy goddess Turibrigensi Adaeginae, Victorino, a servant of Cornelia Severa, who willingly fulfilled the vow she gave him’. The inscription shows the popular devotion of this votive offering dedicated to the local deity, in this case Adaegina or Ataecina, a syncretic goddess between this Celtiberian deity and the Roman Proserpina, goddess of the underworld.
