A figure of the Egyptian god Horus with crown from Upper and Lower Egypt.
This is an archaeological reproduction of the original in grey granite, approximately 2.50 m high. Temple of Horus at Edfu, Ptolemaic period (ca. 200 BC). The ancient conception of Horus as a full-bodied falcon never lost its force at Edfu, and in accordance with it, pairs of falcons like this one, either alone or protecting the pharaoh’s sphinx in their claws, were placed in front of the entrance pillar and the door of the hypostyle hall. The statue retains the purity of its traditional lines, as if the Greeks had never taken possession of the country.
