Plato postulated the creation of the Universe on the geometrical basis of 5 elements, 5 regular polyhedra that correspond to the elements. They are also known as Platonic bodies, cosmic bodies, Pythagorean solids, perfect solids, Plato’s polyhedra.
The Platonic solids are: the cube or hexahedron (earth), the icosahedron (water), the octahedron (air), the tetrahedron (fire) and the dodecahedron (ether or universe).
