The Asclepius of Ampurias is a sculpture from the 3rd century BC. The original of this piece is in the Archaeological Museum of Barcelona and was found in the Asklepeion, an area of the city devoted to medicine and is attributed to the school of Phidias. God of Medicine, he is depicted with a beard and a solemn gesture, and it was believed that he descended at night to perform his cures in the sanctuaries. In the Latin world, he was known as Aesculapius.
