Recreation of a statue of Thutmose III (reigned from c. 1479 to 1425 BC), Egyptian king of the 18th Dynasty (16th-13th century BC). One of the most glorious pharaohs of ancient Egypt was Thutmose III, whose seated statue has all the characteristics of Egyptian art: hieratic, stable, solid. The statue of Thutmose III in Cairo is a masterpiece, depicting the king in an idealised form, rather than a hero, evoking the gentle adolescent king, still under the tutelage of the queen-pharaoh Hatseput, his stepmother and co-regent.
