Stele of Sant Jordi (Saint George). 15th century AD.
This medallion in high relief represents Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia) on horseback and fighting with the dragon. Saint George appears with the characteristic armour of the period, the white harness and, given the position of his arm, it is assumed that there was a lance, which has now disappeared.
It is one of the most beautiful sculptural works of Catalan civil architecture and was made of stone from the quarries of Montjuïc in 1418 by the master sculptor Pere Joan.
The original can be found in the Gothic portal of the Palau de la Generalitat, Carrer del Bisbe (Barcelona).
